New for Authors in Squarespace: Goodreads icon

I’ve written before about why I believe Squarespace is an excellent choice for your author website. Aside from ease of use, great design, and strong SEO, my author clients love the free 24x7 support that’s included with every Squarespace website.

Squarespace also releases improvements on a continuing basis. Some, like the drag-and-drop Fluid Engine editor, get a lot of attention, while other small, useful enhancements are easy to miss.

A recent addition that is especially helpful for writers, authors, and bloggers is the Goodreads icon.

Goodreads icon in Squarespace

Until recently, Goodreads was not a standard icon when you added social links in Squarespace. As an author with a presence on Goodreads, you either had to put up with the default “link” icon, as shown on the right of this set below, or do a fiddly workaround that involved making your own icon, uploading it to Squarespace, and then referencing it through CSS code.

Now, happily, Goodreads is included in the available icon set. So all you have to do, when setting your social icons, is paste in your Goodreads link. Squarespace recognizes this and sets the correct icon:

Update your Squarespace social links once for your whole site

Many people don’t realize that there is a central place in Squarespace where you update or edit your social links, and this then takes effect everywhere you’ve used a social link block. So, even if you’ve included social links in your website header, footer, bio, and contact page, you don’t have to worry about keeping all of these in sync.

Find your Squarespace social links panel here.

Other social media icons in Squarespace that are useful for authors include:

  • Instagram

  • LinkedIn

  • Medium

  • TikTok

  • Twitter

  • YouTube

You can see the full (current) list of social media icons here.

At the time I’m writing this, Squarespace does not yet offer icons for other popular author tools like BookBub or BookFunnel. There are several steps in adding a custom icon to Squarespace, but a web designer like me can handle that for you. This is the kind of detail I’m happy to offer to my custom website clients.
